The Next Wave of Women & Power (NWWP) is an international leadership development network designed for young women ages 18-40. NWWP holistically engages young women in a rigorous experiential curriculum that 1) enhances their wisdom, creativity and intuition, 2) challenges their existing notions about power and 3) encourages the building of a global community of empowered young women. NWWP creates projects and initiatives that fully engage the hearts, minds and concerns of young women both nationally and abroad. NWWP/1+1+1=ONE is a 501(c)3 organization based in New York.

CORE TEAM:

  • Rha Goddess is a performing artist and social/political activist. Her work has been internationally featured in several compilations, anthologies, forums and festivals. Rha’s debut project, “Soulah Vibe”, received rave industry reviews from Ms. Magazine, The Source, XXL, Interview, etc..Time Magazine called it ”..one of the year’s coolest records.” As Founder and CEO of Divine Dime Entertainment, Ltd., she was one of the first women in Hip Hop to co-create, independently market and commercially distribute her own music world wide. In May 2000, Essence Magazine recognized Rha as one of 30 Women to Watch in the new millennium. In 2002, BAM’s prestigious Next Wave festival’s NextNext series, chose her as one of six artists deemed to be influential in the next decade. Her activist work includes, Co-founding the Sista II Sista Freedom School for Young Women of Color, and being the First International Spokeswoman for the Universal Zulu Nation. Rha has also been an encore featured keynote in the Women & Power Summit at Omega Institute along with Iyanla Vanzant, Eve Ensler, Anita Hill, Eileen Fisher, Jane Fonda, Alice Walker, and Marion

  • Jennifer Calderon aka j-Love is an educator, journalist, and activist. She has been working with young people from Southern California to New York for the last fourteen years. She is co-founder of several organizations, including Zulu's San Diego chapter, The B-Boy Summit, Sista II Sista and The Active Element Foundation. As a freelance writer, Jennifer contributes to Chuck D’s Rapstation, the Source, Clamor, and The Ave among others. She's been at El Puente for nine years as a guidance counselor and hip-hop activist facilitator. Jennifer is a speaker for Know Thy Self Productions, and is currently working on the upcoming Till the White Day is Done, a book about white privilege, hip-hop and social change. J-Love is currently working on two books, White Girl and 'Til the White Day is Done. 

  • Michelle Bissel, Operations Manager- Michelle is accountable for all financial operations, human resources, systems and communication structures for Next Wave and the project. She has worked in the capacity of Executive Administrator and Bookkeeper for Service Center of New York, Borough Wide Recycling, and Expressway Reality.


  • Phakiso “Kiki” Collins, Company Manager has provided project management, technical assistance and production support for MTV, VHI, HBO, and MSNBC. She is currently producing a documentary entitled “Guilty Flesh” which confronts the stigmas surrounding Black women and their sexuality.

  • Stephanie Hasiotis, Stage Manager is in awe of the women she gets to works with. Recently a graduate of SUNY New Paltz, Stephanie has spent the past four years growing as an actor, stage manager and an activist for social change. Currently she is playing the role of Stage Manager and is thrilled to be a part of the We Got Issues! team.

  • Noelia Espinal, Leadership Development Intern Recently graduated from Wheaton College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with a minor in International Economics. Noelia has a passion for social justice and believes in making communities stronger by allowing the youth from all neighborhoods to dream and giving them the opportunity to succeed.


  • Jennette Arias, Production Assistant- Artist/ dancer/ teacher/ model, has worked as an Event Organizer on an intergenerational Hip Hop & Youth Development Conference, “It’s Bigger than Hip Hop” with The Fund for the City of New York and Union Settlement Association/ Youth at Union in East Harlem. She has worked in the non-profit realm for 10 years working up from a group leader to Assistant Coordinator in progressing youth development.

“WE GOT ISSUES!” is visionary arts and civic transformation project that will:

Phase I: Use multimedia and the performing arts as a way to encourage a national dialogue about civic participation and the most relevant issues facing young women in America today, the WE GOT ISSUES! Performance Piece. (ACHIEVED) (August 2003- DECEMBER 2004) 

Phase II: To train and develop 10-15 young women primarily based in New York City in the integration of arts, empowerment, and social/political activism: the WGI! Leadership Institute. To have the WGI! Institute participants develop this transformative arts based curriculum in communities that support and encourage young women’s civic leadership on a local, state, and national level, the WGI! National Tour (8-10 cities).

Phase III: To support the WGI! Leadership Delegation & Member Network created through our Institute and National Tour, in creating and articulating a Ten Point WE GOT ISSUES! Visionary Political Platform that speaks to the hearts, minds and concerns of young women.
