What is 1+1+1=ONE?
Mission:
The mission of 1+1+1=ONE is to use Arts Based Civic Transformation to empower individuals, communities, and societies in affecting positive social change.
- Through rigorous training and development we strengthen individual’s internal resources thereby giving them greater capacity to lead and affect social change.
- Through outreach and education we facilitate the creation of networks and collaborations that leverage the best knowledge, skills, and resources individuals and communities have to create a more just, harmonious and sustainable world.
- Through advocacy and recognition, we promote new models of bold, courageous, and empowered leadership by honoring the often overlooked contributions individuals make to their respective communities and society as a whole.
What are your current programs?
Our programs include:
- The We Got Issues! (WGI!) Leadership Institute, a transformative leadership development network for young women ages 18-35. WGI! holistically engages young women in a rigorous experiential curriculum that incorporates the creation of initiatives that speak to the hearts, minds and concerns of young women both nationally and abroad.
- The Hip Hop Mental Health Project (HHMHP) done collaboration with the Department of Psychology at City College (CUNY), HHMHP uses the integration of performing arts and research based dialogue to shift the cultural paradigm of shame and alienation surrounding mental illness and satisfy society’s need for a SAFE place to confront the issue and obtain vital information.
- Eradicating Racism (ER); a workshop and community dialogue series that engages people in the conversation of privilege, and works toward the elimination of gender and racial oppression.
Who do you serve?
1+1+1=ONE serves and is committed to individuals and communities who seek to use their gifts and talents to create a better world. We especially seek to engage those from the most marginalized communities-immigrants, indigenous, people of color, working poor, and queer.

We Got Issues! 10 Point Visionary Political Platform: In time for the 2008 presidential elections, 1+1 will unveil our Ten Point Visionary Political Platform for Young Women. Our hope is that this platform will serve as a framework for cultivating young women’s leadership and for holding the politicians who claim to represent them accountable. Through our FREEDOM TALK TOUR we will bring the Ten Point Platform to young women around the country where they have an opportunity to cast their vote and voice their opinion on what’s most important to them and their communities.

Young Women’s Empowerment Series: We are collaborating with Divine Dime Entertainment to work with an intergenerational group of women from the New Bedford, MA, community. Using our transformative arts methodology, we will facilitate workshops to help women cultivate their life visions and formulate actions to help it become a reality.

We Got Issues! Institute: We welcome 16 fierce women to be the 2nd class of our WGI! Institute. The program spans 12 months and embodies a rigourous leadership development curriculum that integrates a new brand of art and social/political activism. It is a structured environment to support the creation, cultivation, and integration of arts, activism, and transformative leadership. Activities include storytelling, community dialogue, music, movement, fierce guest speakers, intensive coaching by professionals, and peer evaluations.

When you invest in our organization, you help fulfill our mission of an empowered, socially just and sustainable world. 1+1+1=ONE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and contributions are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Our Federal Tax Identification number is 26-0046127. Checks should be made payable to 1+1+1=ONE.
